Book Information

Nora knows she no longer wants to live, but once she makes that decision, she ends up in a library at midnight. It isn’t just any library, though. At this library, Nora can choose to make different choices based on the regrets she has in life. As she ventures through different lives and different choices, she learns many important things. But Nora’s main problem lies in whether or not she can find the will to want to live.

Review | Heidi Dischler

I won’t say that this was the best book I’ve ever read or even one of my top books this year. What I will say, though, is that this concept is unmatched and the writing is SO good. I really enjoyed it and its lessons, and the meaning of the book was probably what I enjoyed the most.

So, as we follow Nora around after she makes the decision to die, we get to see her as she chooses different lives based on the regrets she did have in her original life. When you get towards the ending of the novel, it honestly was so beautiful and poignant. I think this book has a very important message and it’s one that I would love to share with people.

One of the other things that I really enjoyed about this novel besides the messages and meaning behind it was its high-concept plot. I mean, how cool is it to think of a place between life and death where you get to revisit your past regrets and see what you could’ve done differently simply by reading the first few sentences of a book? I also (obviously) really enjoy books and libraries, so this really struck a chord for me.

Not only was the concept exceptional, but our main character was so great to follow around and listen to. I didn’t find that Nora annoyed me or that she was being overdramatic. I honestly just felt how deeply lonely she was and how she searched and searched for this version of a perfect life. I feel like a lot of people will be able to relate to that.

Overall, with the impression concept, the beautiful message, and our wonderful MC, I truly did enjoy this book. I would love to recommend this to all of my high schoolers who come in feeling lost or down to talk to me because I think they would get a lot out of this novel. 4/5 stars and a very great book.
