Movie Review: Fountain of Youth (2025)
A treasure-hunting, risk-taking, semi-selfish brother and comical relief that doesn’t really relieve you… check out my full review of Fountain of Youth (2025) directed by Guy Ritchie below!

Luke Purdue (John Krasinski) can’t seem to stop chasing the high that comes from treasure hunting. His sister, Charlotte (Natalie Portman), has put treasure hunting behind her and wants nothing more to do with it, but when she gets into a nasty divorce with her husband, treasure hunting might just be the escape she needs. Luke pulls her back in with the allure of the fountain of youth and together they go on a perilous journey to see if they can be the first to discover one of the most powerful treasures of all.

At first, I was really excited to watch Fountain of Youth (2025) because I’m literally obsessed with movies like National Treasure (2004). I was hoping that this would be a fun, thrilling, treasure-hunting movie. I got one of those and I’ll explain my thoughts a little more below.
So, the first thing I want to say is that this movie wasn’t serious at all so you don’t get the whole “National Treasure” vibe from it. The comic relief fell flat and honestly was very cringey a lot of times. Maybe it’s because I’m not a comical person (my husband says I have no sense of humor whatsoever 🤷🏻♀️), but nothing made me even really crack a smile…. That was honestly my main pet peeve about this movie, but a close second was one of the main characters….
Okay, so Luke, John Krasinki’s character, was INSUFFERABLE. I did not like him at all. He was selfish, driven only by the prize, and was the lead of all the comic relief, which made me dislike him more. Thankfully he had like two minutes of character development at the end or else his character would’ve been a whole wash. I like Natalie Portman’s character, Charlotte, a lot more, but she actually cared for her brother and her son (Benjamin Chivers) and overall had way more personality and drive than Luke. Also, our little “villain” who I can’t really name because that spoils the movie honestly just missed the mark. He only really became a villain at the last minute and it was just… meh.
Spoilers ahead.
It was Owen Carver (Domhnall Gleeson). He was the villain and was pretending to be sick the whole time just so Luke would put more effort into finding the fountain of youth. Charlotte could so obviously see Carver going downhill and Luke was just chilling like “it’ll be fine, it’ll all be fine” 🙄.
Overall, this movie was extremely lackluster. I get what they were trying to do with the movie as a whole and the revelations they wanted you to learn, but I think the whole thing would’ve been so much better without Luke’s character. Or, at the very least, a different version of Luke’s character. It’s hard to relate to a movie when you don’t like the MC at all….
