Movie Review: Winter Spring Summer or Fall (2024)

A sweet coming-of-age romance that was honestly so refreshing, check out my full review for Winter Spring Summer or Fall (2024) below!

Movie Blurb

Remi (Jenna Ortega) has her entire life planned. She’s been working towards her dream college, Harvard, since she can remember. Her plans get muddled when she meets Barnes (Percy Hynes White), a boy who changes her perspective on everything and makes her finally want to do things for herself.

With pressure from her parents and decisions for her future looming, Remi must decide what’s more important: love or success.

This was another sleepless night movie watch that took me by surprise (kinda like My Fault: London). It seems that I have the best luck when I watch movies in the very early hours of the morning. I really enjoyed this young adult romance and honestly adore Jenna Ortega and Percy Hynes White.

So, I’ll start with the plot. The movie breaks up this story into four separate parts with, obviously, winter, spring, summer, and fall. It’s basically when they first meet, when they’re in love, and the ending of the movie. It’s pretty linear and follows an easy path that’s been well-worn by other coming-of-age movies, but still in a way that you get to enjoy the romance. It was okay, but the plot definitely wasn’t the highlight of the movie. The characters/actors/actresses were the highlight.

Jenna Ortega plays the cutest most determined character named Remi. I honestly felt so bad for her the entire time because of her parents. Watching this as a mom, I was seriously disheartened by the way the writers decided to portray her parents (Marisol Nichols and Adam Rodriguez). They were so condescending and controlling in a way that they made to come off as “supportive”. It was honestly disturbing. Remi was fit into a tiny box and her parents forced her to stay in it. I really didn’t like it. What I did like, though, was Percy Hynes White’s character, Barnes. He was so sweet and honestly every time he looked at Remi, I just got flashbacks to my own high school relationship (who consequently turned into my husband haha). So, while Remi’s parents were acting like her romance was just a dumb young fling, I sit here just remembering how it felt to be in love like that for the first time. I’ll never understand people who try to tell teenagers that what they’re feeling doesn’t matter and will change. My feelings never changed and love is love. Period. Sometimes when you’re younger, you just feel things at higher highs and lower lows.

Overall, this isn’t a long review, but I really did enjoy this movie. Barnes was by far my favorite character, but the onscreen chemistry between Jenna Ortega and Percy Hynes White was amazing. I think I’ll now watch any romance movie that Percy Hynes White decides to play in because he’s just adorable (My Old Ass was one of the ones where you just can’t resist his boyish charm). Definitely a sweet movie that would be great for any romance lovers.
