7 Books to Read Before the Movie (or TV Show) Comes Out

Hey, everyone! With all of these new movie and TV show announcements, I wanted to make you guys a list of my top 7 books to read before the movie (or tv show) comes out. So, if you’re a huge fan of adaptations like me, keep scrolling to see my most anticipated releases.

We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han

This is a HUGE one that I think everyone is ready for. We’ll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han is the basis of the third season for The Summer I Turned Pretty on Amazon! This story basically follows Belly as she finds herself in a love triangle between two brothers who she grew up with. So, if you haven’t read the series, start now before the third season is released in two weeks.

Anticipated tv show release date: July 16, 2025

Family of Liars by E. Lockhart

This is a prequel (and will be the foundation for the second season) for We Were Liars. The show was just released on Amazon, and I absolutely loved rereading the book and watching the show to review it for you guys. This is about the rich Sinclair family and their struggles with power, secrets, and huge family drama. It may not sound like much, but if you haven’t read the first book, you’re going to be mind blown, and that’s a promise.

Anticipated tv show release date: Late 2026 or early 2027 🥲

Regretting You by Colleen Hoover

Probably not my favorite Colleen Hoover book, but I’m still stoked for this adaptation!! Regretting You is about a mom and daughter duo who both find love in unsuspecting places. Colleen Hoover is obviously the queen of romance, so you should definitely add this book to your list if you haven’t read it already.

You can check out my full review for Regretting You here.

Anticipated movie release date: October 24, 2025

Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover

My NUMBER ONE FAVORITE Colleen Hoover book is getting an adaptation 😭. Reminders of Him has been my number one favorite since I read it a few years ago. This is basically the story of a girl who is sent to jail after killing her boyfriend in a driving accident. She gives birth in jail, comes out, and tries to reconnect with her daughter who currently lives with her dead boyfriend’s parents. Complicated isn’t even the right word to describe this book but it is SO GOOD.

Anticipated movie release date: February 6, 2026

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

Emily Henry has been a constant on my romance authors list since she released Beach Read. Ever since then, I’ve followed and read each of her novels. While not my favorite of her books, People We Meet on Vacation is still such a fun and adorable romance novel about two best friends who find out they’re attracted to each other.

Anticipated movie release date: January 9, 2026

Verity by Colleen Hoover

I’m pretty sure EVERYONE is ready for this movie to come out! One of the only thrillers that Colleen Hoover has written, Verity was a book I read before I even had my blog (and obviously need to reread so I can’t write a review). It’s about this woman who is ghostwriting a novel for a famous author named Verity. The part where it gets complicated is that Verity is apparently brain dead (comatose ish) and her husband is commissioning the novel to be ghostwritten. Strange things start happening in the house and it gets reallyyyy creepy. My mind was reeling after finishing this novel and I definitely don’t recommend reading it at night!

Anticipated movie release date: May 15, 2026

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

This is a book that I actually just finished this year (partly because I heard it would be a movie). Basically, this novel is about a girl named Nora who is unhappy in her life. She ends up in a library where she gets to “try on” different versions of herself where she made different choices. Kinda fantastical but really moving in terms of viewing your life positively.

Anticipated movie release date: Supposedly 2025, but I’m not that hopeful (thinking it’ll be 2026)

Are there any books you're really looking forward to being adapted? Any that I may have missed? Let me know in the comments!
