Book Information
Pom is ready to put her partying days behind her. With Gabe by her side, having a good distance from her parents, and loving her bakery business, there’s so much that Pom is still looking forward to doing as the “new” Pomona Afton. So, when she throws her first charity gala to promote her foundation and her cause, she is sure that she’s finally turning a new leaf. Except, someone gets murdered. Now, in the midst of another murder investigation, Pomona takes matters into her own hands to save her foundation, reputation, and her best friend who is currently being framed. She is, after all, the Pomona Afton. How hard can solving another murder be?
Review | Heidi Dischler
So, I really adored Pomona Afton Can So Solve A Murder. Her inner monologues are both fun and interesting as you follow her along to solve the murder of her grandmother. This second addition to Pomona’s story had a lot of the fun elements as the first, just without as much pizzazz.
We start off with Pom’s introduction into “adult” high society (as in, her first charity gala held to show everyone that she is no longer a shallow party girl). Everything is going according to plan until someone gets murdered at her gala. In true Pom fashion, she gears up to solve the murder in order to save her foundation and reputation. All of this is done with her faithful boyfriend, Gabe, by her side.
While I enjoyed getting to see Pom and Gabe back in action and together again, I feel like most of this novel dragged on A LOT. It was mostly inner monologues from Pom about how awesome she is and a good bit of the relationship struggles she has with Gabe since they come from two very different walks of life. The majority? Not about them solving the murder, that’s for sure. So, this translates to a very slow moving mystery book in my opinion. You still get a lot of fun, but it’s just not… as fun, I guess?
However, I will say that when the ending picked up, it picked up. Pomona, of course, had to have a grand reveal for who the murderer truly was and made sure she got all the glory for solving the case yet again. It was an awesome ending and probably raised my rating from a solid three star read to a three point five star read (rounded up for social platforms).
Overall, if you loved the first book, you’ll likely like this one, too. Just… not as much. I love Pomona and I love the growth that she gets, but her growth wasn’t the sole reason I wanted to read (and honestly felt like the sole purpose of this book). 3.5/5 rounded up to 4 for social platforms.
