Books That Seriously Need to Be Made Into Movies
Alright, so I decided to make a post about all of the books I think need to be movies. Obviously producers will never see this list, but in case they do, they’ll be able to see all of the ones I think will be the best adaptations 😂.
I picked all of these books with these three things in mind: A story people will love, marketability, and how well the story would translate to the screen. This kicks out A LOT of fantasy stories (sorry fellow ACOTAR lovers…). But, without further ado, check out my list of movie that seriously need to be made into movies below!
The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer
Basically a gameshow hosted on the private island of the most popular children’s novelist in order to win his only unpublished novel? Yeah, it’s a wonderful story that holds a lot of magic (not in the literal sense, though). You will read this book and think, “Wow, this reminds me of my childhood”. The Wishing Game would translate so well to screens and would give people the type of emotion they want to feel as they walk out of the theater.
November 9 by Colleen Hoover
You all know that EVERYONE is on a Colleen Hoover kick right now (especially movie producers). With Reminders of Him and Verity slated for release soon (and with Regretting You and It Ends with Us already having been adapted), this is the novel I think needs to come next. November 9 is heartbreaking and beautiful and exactly the type of adaptation CoHo fans want to see (take notes movie producers). If not November 9, then I’ll settle for Ugly Love instead 🙂.
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
If any of you have followed The Inheritance Games series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, then you know just how marketable this would be. Not only is it an AMAZING story, but there would be so many additional movies/shows that could be made. A basically homeless girl inherits billions from a man she doesn’t even know? A love triangle? Ugh. I mean it’s the perfect book to adapt. Am I right, or am I right?
A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole
Probably the least marketable out of my list (and a little overdone in terms of storytelling), but a story that literally has a HUGE following, A Thousand Boy Kisses is the type of story to make you cry from beginning to end. This story is one of a very small list of books that has made me cry. That in itself is an accomplishment and I personally would love to see this book made into a movie. Boy meets girl as kids, they fall in love, and are separated. Such a good book even if it is super trope-y.
The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros
Y’all, I almost wish that The Things We Leave Unfinished was getting adapted instead of Fourth Wing (even though Fourth Wing is already in progress). This book had SO much emotion and romance and it’s the type of movie I would run to the theaters for. When you want something to tear your heart out, leave you surprised and hollow, and give you a romance that you’ll never forget, this is the type of book you want and the type of movie I want to be adapted.
Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto
When an elderly Asian mother finds someone murdered in her own store, she decides to solve the case by herself. What ensues is a hilarious whodunit story very similar to The Thursday Murder Club if you get the vibes.
Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers would be a fun, character-driven story that gives you mystery, family, and so much more.
The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
The God of the Woods follows a decades old family mystery where a powerful and wealthy family loses their firstborn to the woods and no one ever truly knows what happens. When their daughter goes missing in the same woods from a summer camp that is close to their home, the family is in shambles, but one detective swears to solve the case. The deeper the detective gets, though, the more obvious it becomes that this case is not all that it seems. With a huge twist ending, this book would be made into the PERFECT movie.
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
An older woman is the janitor at an aquarium. She forms an odd bond with an octopus who helps her solve the mystery of her son’s disappearance. While the octopus doesn’t actually talk to her, he does have his own chapters and it’s super freaking cool. I think this would make a really great movie, however, it would take some serious care to get it right. The marketability for this is already amazing, but Remarkably Bright Creatures brings empathy to animals in captivity, shows the love of a mother, and gives you SO much in terms of a great story.
So which books do YOU think should be made into movies??
