Book Review: Be with Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The second book in the Wait for You series, reviewing Be with Me was a lot more… lackluster. Jennifer L. Armentrout gave me the romance of a lifetime with the first novel, but this one felt like less than half of what the other book had. Check out my Be with Me review below for the rest of my thoughts!

Book Information

Teresa has always had a crush on her brother’s best friend, Jase. So, when her knee is blown and she has to go to college, she decides to go where her brother and Jase both are. The tension between Teresa and Jase is palpable, but will they find a way to be together despite Jase holding back on so many things?

Review | Heidi Dischler

I’m really disappointed in this novel because I seriously adored the first one. Did I still like the characters for this book? Absolutely. So what made this one so much worse than the first? The lack of story or plot or anything. Honestly, reading this novel was kind of just like leisurely walking through the woods taking weird turns and never knowing where you were going. Do you like that in a romance novel? Then you’ll enjoy this. It definitely wasn’t my thing, though. I think I like structure way too much.

Another thing that seriously annoyed me throughout the book was how often Jase’s eyes were described as a heated silver or a burning quicksilver. I don’t think I can see the word “quicksilver” again after this without thinking of Be with Me. It was in the novel that many times…. Just a pet peeve, though, nothing against Jennifer L. Armentrout.

On the good side of things, the characters were beautiful as per usual. Emotional depth and great character arcs. I just couldn’t get past the fact that this book had no direction whatsoever.

Spoilers ahead.

It was so very obvious that Erik accidentally killed Debbie. I guess it was meant to be that way, but there was no suspense whatsoever because I saw the whole plot after Debbie “killed herself” from a mile away.

Overall, the writing is still stellar as per usual along with the characters. The plot, however, was not there for me. If you don’t mind reading without actual plot points, then this won’t bother you at all. It just wasn’t my thing.
