Book Review: Wait for You by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Talk about a romance novel. With drama, heartbreak, and absolute triumph in overcoming trauma, I’m so excited to review Wait for You by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Book Information

Avery is running from a past that she never wants to think about again. She’s running from her family. Running from her hometown. Basically, she’s running from the trauma and pain that everyone from her past caused. In a new city starting college, Avery meets people who make her feel human again. Especially Cam, who makes her feel things she never thought she’d feel. She finally thinks she can be normal until she starts receiving threatening texts and phone calls that bring up all the pain from her past. Will she be able to overcome the past and move forward to a better future? Or will she pull herself in and push Cam and her other friends away?

Gosh, I love Jennifer L. Armentrout. Her first book that I read was Problems with Forever, and then I followed up with If There’s No Tomorrow. I fell in love with her characters, her writing, and her intricate way that she wove character trauma and problems into a novel, treating them in such a delicate way. She made it to where you sympathized with characters, and you really felt their pain. Wait for You is no different, and I have no idea why it’s taken me so long to read it. If you love Things We Never Got Over or November 9, you’ll absolutely fall head over heels for this book.

Cam was an absolute dream. Like holy crap, he is the man of every woman’s dreams. And if he’s not? Well, something is definitely wrong with you… 😉 I loved him so much and his character was flawed and dynamic and so damn chivalrous. Give me Cam any day.

With Avery, Jennifer L. Armentrout handled her pain and trauma so well. Severe trigger warning, though, assault is mentioned and written about in this novel, so keep that in mind. It doesn’t necessarily spoil anything by saying that, just wanted to put that out there for readers who may not want to read about that.

Spoilers ahead.

It felt so very real with the way that Molly acted towards Avery. It’s not something you expect to see. Most of the time, you’ll get written depictions of how these two girls would bound over their trauma, but to me, the anger feels so much more real than that. I just wish I knew why Molly called Avery at the end of the book!

Overall, you can give me a Jennifer L. Armentrout book any day of the week. I will happily read any romance she writes especially if the men are like Cam. Because, whew…. Did I mention that he was my favorite?
