Book Review: The Score by Elle Kennedy

Book Information
Allie Hayes has just broken up with her on-again off-again long-term boyfriend for good. But instead of having her best friend to lean on, she only has Dean (because he’s the only one at home). After taking way too many shots of tequila with him, they end up sleeping together. This doesn’t mean anything to Allie, but she does think it could help her get over Sean. Except the fact that she starts having feelings for Dean and he’s the last person who knows how to commit to a relationship.

Y’all. I really really wanted to like this book. I LOVE Allie and Dean in the Off Campus TV series. This book, though? Ugh, it feels wrong to say it, but I really didn’t like Dean all that much. His character in the TV show was so much more endearing, and you could actually see the super sweet side of him. In the book? I feel like it just isn’t there. Maybe it’s because these books were written more than a decade ago, but I didn’t like most of the male main characters so far.
So, what did I actually like about this book? Allie. Allie really still had all the spunky and fun personality that she did in the show. Dean lost a good bit of his soft side, and I honestly felt like book-Dean just was too much of a ladies’ man without all the respect he had in the show. Not to mention, why are these books so long without having hardly any plot? This one was ALL SMUT. I’m telling you, like there were hardly any plot points at all. Allie slept with Dean. Dean slept with Allie. They brought in a vibrator. That’s about it. It was honestly too much for me.
I will say that I liked this one more than I liked The Mistake. Logan had even less of a personality and EVEN LESS of a plot. There wasn’t much to fall in love with there. But The Score definitely does not surpass The Deal. Not even close.
Overall, while I love Allie and Dean in the show, I really didn’t enjoy their book as much as I thought I would. It was all steamy scenes, no plot, and Dean had way fewer soft edges in the book than he did in the show. Maybe I’m just biased because I wanted show-Dean, but show-Dean is far superior to book-Dean and you can’t convince me otherwise.
