My Favorite Comfort Movies as a Hopeless Romantic

So, I was about to turn on one of my favorite comfort romantic movies when it hit me. Why don’t  I make a post about them?? These are movies that I’ve watched at least four times each (if not more because, I mean, some of these are classics), aren’t super sad (because comfort movies can’t exactly break your heart when you’re looking for comfort), and always always have a happy ending. Check out the full list (in no particular order) of my favorite romantic comfort movies below!

Pretty Woman (1990)

The fact that I only discovered this movie in the 21st century is a crime. It has become one of my favorite romantic comfort movies of all time (despite some of its very obvious flaws…). Basically a Cinderella story except Cinderella is Julia Roberts as a hooker and Richard Gere is this rich man who is unhappy and pays for her company (very short blurb). You can obviously tell what the obvious flaws are to making this a romantic movie, buuuuut don’t discount it just yet. Give it a try and you’ll see just how much chemistry the leads have together. Not to mention, Julia Roberts is just a magnetic force on screen.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

My head swivels any time I hear “Bad Reputation” play because it always reminds me of Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles). Heath Ledger literally induces butterflies in your stomach (you can’t tell me that he doesn’t), and Julia Stiles reciting her poem at the end? UGH. I burn. I pine. I perish. Give me this movie any damn day of the week.

A Cinderella Story (2004)

This is probably a guilty pleasure because, let’s be honest, it’s not the most… developed movie. It’s super cheesy, it’s literally just a Cinderella story, and the romance is even cheesier. If you know the scene where Hilary Duff says something along the lines of “Waiting for you is like waiting for rain in this drought”? (Obviously, I still LOVE this scene, it’s just cringy as heck). Well, yeah, that scene says it all, BUT I still swoon like a preteen (no shame coming from me!). Definitely one of my comfort movies, but not the most serious of them all, that’s for sure.

Friends with Benefits (2011)

Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake in this movie are hilarious and hard to look away from in this movie. Their chemistry with their characters comes out almost immediately and I loved seeing the characters develop a relationship on screen. When I want something funny, light, and with romance that develops throughout the movie, this is my go to.

Dirty Dancing (1987)

Patrick Swayze is literally my forever celeb crush. Dirty Dancing is a movie that I will NEVER stop watching. I honestly watched it just the other day. You have this handsome and mysterious dancer who seems all tough and badass, but Baby brings out all of his insecurities and helps him believe in himself (while he helps her find the confidence she lacks). It’s an instant go-to comfort movie for me (and usually the one I pick above all others along with 10 Things I Hate About You).

She's the Man (2006)

I definitely don’t think you’d be able to switch gender roles for this one (unless you’re a movie like White Chicks). She’s the Man is another Shakespearean spin, but this one is based on Twelfth Night. Basically, Viola disguises herself as her twin brother so she can play soccer on a prestigious all-men soccer team. Amanda Bynes is hilarious and Channing Tatum is such a dorky, cute romantic lead. This is such a fun, light movie without hardly any heavy moments. It’s an easy comfort movie to fall back on.

What are your favorite comfort movies to watch again and again?
